Given that we are entering the barbeque season here in Australia, and many places in the northern hemisphere are enjoying their autumn, I thought it might be a good time to share some old favourites for our outdoor get togethers and for those times when the best option for dinner is a BBQ.
First off is a salad that I remember well from my childhood and always loved…. Waldorf Salad. The sweetness of the apple and the crunchy celery combined with the nuttiness of walnuts and completed with creamy mayonnaise was a great combo for my taste buds. Simple to make and always a favourite.
- 1 apples, cored and cubed ( I used granny smiths)
- 2 sticks celery, cut into slices
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 tbl sp egg mayonnaise
Chop your apple and celery and mix in a bowl with the walnuts.
Dress with the mayonnaise and serve immediately. This salad is best eaten fresh.
